Origin Story

The idea for Waverii was born during a surf trip to Bocas del Toro, Panama, in 2015. While planning the trip, founder Jason Old and his friends from Florida and California kept asking the same questions: Should we bring our surfboards or rent quality ones there? What are the best surf spots, and how do we reach them? Can we find accommodations near the breaks?

Despite hours of research, reliable, up-to-date information on local surf shops, rental availability, or surf-friendly lodging proved difficult to find. To be safe, they packed their own boards and gear.

When they arrived in Bocas del Toro—a stunning Caribbean archipelago—they discovered a vibrant local surf scene: shops with quality boards, water taxis ready to reach remote breaks, and photographers capturing the perfect ride. Yet these services were virtually invisible online, and not easily discoverable to travelers in advance.

This revealed a clear gap: local surf businesses had the knowledge, gear, and services surfers needed—but lacked the online presence to reach a global audience.

Waverii was created to bridge this gap—a digital platform designed to connect traveling surfers with trusted, independent surf shops, instructors, photographers, boat taxis, and other surf-related service providers around the world.

Our Mission

Waverii’s mission is simple: To simplify surf travel.

We’re building more than a marketplace—we’re cultivating a global surf community. One that connects surfers to meaningful experiences, supports local surfpreneurs (local surf-focused entrepreneurs), and promotes sustainable, ocean-conscious travel.

Through Waverii, independent surf businesses gain visibility, surfers gain convenience and connection, and everyone benefits from more authentic and accessible surf adventures.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a world where:

  • Surf travel is seamless and community-driven.
  • Local surfpreneurs thrive with access to global markets.
  • Surfing becomes a force for sustainable tourism and environmental advocacy.

The “Wave” in Waverii represents every surfer—from dawn patrol locals to nomadic wave-seekers. The “ii” honors Hawai‘i, the birthplace of modern surf culture, while also symbolizing innovation, duality, and the future of global surfing.

A Note on Responsibility

Waverii acts solely as an online platform that facilitates connections between users and third-party service providers (“Providers”). While we strive to ensure that Providers listed on our site meet certain standards, Waverii does not own, operate, or control the services offered by these Providers. Users are encouraged to perform their own due diligence when engaging with any Provider listed on the platform.

We do not guarantee the accuracy of third-party listings, availability of services, or the suitability of any Provider for a particular user’s needs.
