About the Area

Sea Señorita Villa is located in Playa Zancudo, a laid back beach community on Costa Rica’s remote Southern Pacific coast. Far from the busy tourist towns and crowded beaches found in other parts of the country, Zancudo offers a more authentic side of Costa Rica; where jungle meets the ocean, wildlife is everywhere, and life moves at a slower pace.

The area is especially appealing to surfers because of the variety of breaks within reach. Playa Zancudo offers uncrowded right- and left-hand waves just steps from the villa, while nearby Pavones is famous around the world for its legendary left-hand point break. Mirabella adds a fun, punchy right-hand point break to the mix, and Matapalo can be reached by boat for another completely different surf experience.

Beyond surfing, this region is made for adventure. Explore waterfalls and jungle trails, go horseback riding, fish offshore or inshore, snorkel, cruise the rivers and mangroves, or simply walk miles of uncrowded beach. Monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths and other wildlife are part of everyday life here.

Playa Zancudo isn't a polished resort destination; and that's exactly what makes it special. It's a place for travelers who want uncrowded waves, wild nature, local culture and a true Southern Costa Rica experience.

Come for the surf, but don't be surprised if the place itself becomes your favorite part of the trip.

Description

Surf, Stay & Experience Southern Costa Rica at Sea Señorita Villa

Sea Señorita Villa is an incredible home base for surfers of all levels looking to experience the uncrowded waves and laid-back beauty of Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific coast.

Just a one-minute walk across the street from the villa is direct beach access to Playa Zancudo, where you’ll often find yourself with the beach and the waves; practically all to yourself. Playa Zancudo offers both right- and left-hand breaks, giving surfers plenty of opportunities to get in the water without the crowds found at many of Costa Rica’s better-known surf destinations. Whether you're learning, building confidence, or an experienced surfer looking for another session, you can grab your board and be in the water within minutes.

For those ready to explore, SSV puts you within reach of some of Southern Costa Rica’s most exciting surf.

Pavones, home to one of the longest left-hand point breaks in the world, is nearby and an absolute must for experienced surfers when conditions are right. Mirabella offers a punchy, fun right-hand point break that can hold impressive size, giving surfers another completely different wave experience.

And then there’s Matapalo.

Sea Señorita Villa has its own private panga boat and captain, exclusively available to our staying guests. When conditions are calling, guests can arrange a boat trip across the Golfo Dulce to surf Matapalo; turning a surf session into an adventure on the water. No crowded tour boat or coordinating with a large group—just you, your crew, your boards, and your captain.

What makes SSV especially fun for a surf trip is what happens when you come home.

After spending the day chasing waves, head back to the villa, drop your board, and dive straight into the pool. Grab a cold drink, relax at the poolside tiki bar, and let Chef Fanny prepare something delicious to refuel you after a long day in the water.

At Sea Señorita Villa, you don't have to choose between a surf trip and a great vacation. You can wake up, check the waves, surf steps from the house, explore legendary nearby breaks, take the private boat out for a surf adventure, and still come home to your own private tropical retreat.

Uncrowded waves. Multiple breaks. Private boat access. Poolside afternoons. Great food. And the Southern Costa Rica surf experience right outside your door.

Good to Know

Sea Señorita Villa offers an optional private on-site dining experience exclusively for our staying guests. La Casita is not a public restaurant; it is available only to guests of SSV, giving you the convenience of enjoying freshly prepared meals without having to leave the property.

Once your booking is confirmed, our team will email you the La Casita Menu. You are under no obligation to dine with us and are welcome to explore local restaurants, cook for yourself, or make your own plans throughout your stay.

We simply ask that you look over the menu before your arrival and let us know which meals or dishes you may be interested in during your stay. This helps Chef Fanny and our team plan ahead, shop for fresh ingredients, and have the appropriate items available should you decide you'd like to dine on the property.

Your selections are not a commitment to order those meals. Think of them as a way for us to be prepared for you.

If you decide to dine with us during your stay, you can enjoy your meal at La Casita, our private guest-only dining space, or we can arrange to have your meal served at the villa.

It's all designed to keep your stay flexible. Spend the day surfing, fishing, exploring—or simply relaxing by the pool—and when you don't feel like going anywhere for dinner, Chef Fanny can have something delicious waiting close to home.

Special Instructions / Notes

Getting to Sea Señorita Villa is part of the adventure—and once you reach Southern Costa Rica, we make the final leg as easy as possible.

Most guests fly internationally into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José. From SJO, you can take a short domestic flight with SANSA Airlines to Golfito (GLF). Once you arrive in Golfito, our SSV Captain will meet you and bring you by private boat to Playa Zancudo, complimentary for our staying guests. It's a beautiful way to begin your stay and gives you your first glimpse of Costa Rica's Southern Pacific coast from the water.

If You're Renting a Car

If you'd like to have your own vehicle during your stay, you have two options:

Drive from San José to Playa Zancudo. Rent a vehicle after arriving at SJO and make the scenic drive south. We recommend a 4x4, especially during the green season.
Fly to Golfito and rent locally. Take the SANSA flight from SJO to Golfito and arrange a rental vehicle there for the remainder of your trip.

For guests who choose the boat transfer, you do not need a rental car to enjoy your stay at SSV. Our team can help coordinate transportation and excursions during your visit.

Travel Tip: When booking your international flight, make sure your Costa Rica airport is SJO (San José). We also recommend allowing enough time between your international arrival and your SANSA connection to Golfito.
